I have been involved in animal advocacy for more than 10 years so far, this has included everything from being a member of my local SPCA’s community council, to cleaning cages at the shelter to my favorite thing of all: fostering. Providing a safe, loving, supportive environment to animals who need a little extra TLC and one-on-one attention is by far the most rewarding thing I have be fortunate enough to experience. As a foster family, you take the animal into your home and treat them as if they are your own, giving them the skills, confidence and love they require to be well adjusted and ready to become someone’s beloved forever companion.
From pregnant cats, to sick and injured dogs and cats, my husband and I have had alot of wonderful short term pets, a few tears are always shed when they do get adopted but they are tears of pride and joy.
Our most recent foster came to us in November after a kind-hearted friend rescued her from the street where she had been seen limping along heavily pregnant. Brandi gave birth to 7 puppies only a few days after she arrived and she and her pups spent the next 8 weeks living and learning in our home. Brandi was an incredible Mom, very patient and doting and once the pups got bigger, she enjoyed playing with them too! The Los Cabos Humane Society agreed to take all the dogs and help to find them new homes once they were old enough to be away from Brandi. They have all been adopted now and are enjoying life with their new families, we were planning on leaving Brandi at the shelter as well, but another friend convinced us to keep fostering her until she got a home too. That turned out to be the best decision for Brandi, she has thoroughly enjoyed being a dog instead of just a Mom and has been a joy to have around. Happily, she won the hearts of a family visiting from Kansas City, Missouri who were thinking of adding another dog tot heir family. She will soon make the trip to Missouri to enjoy her new life with one dog, and two cat sisters.
As a foster family, you take the animal into your home and treat them as if they are your own, giving them the skills, confidence and love they require to be well adjusted and ready to become someone’s beloved forever companion. If this is something you would like do, please visit the LCHS website at loscaboshumanesociety.com.
The LCHS sends a lot of pets to rescue groups and adopters in North America, the dogs and cats always fly to their destination, but they always need an escort (with a paid ticket) on the plane to be responsible for the pet. We pay the pet’s travel fee, do all the paperwork, take the pet to the airport and check in with the travel escort. We take the dogs for a walk and load them in the travel kennel ready to board. You carry the paperwork, claim the animal at your destination and pass it on to the waiting rescue group volunteer or new family.
If you are interested in escorting a pet to their forever home in Canada or the U.S., please check out their website for details http://loscaboshumanesociety.com/escort.html
