Not Just a Typical Friday Night…

Last night, some friends of ours joined us for dinner in town. We had heard about Baja Peppers, located in the Mar de Cortez hotel, and their “all you can eat” baby back ribs, so we thought we would give it a try.  Wow, nice place to eat…kind of tucked away behind the check in desk, and just before the swimming pool for the hotel.  The ribs were very good, not fatty, with lots of meat on the bones.  Their sauce was not overpowering, with just enough zing to make the ribs quite delicious.  The rib meat fell off the bone, cooked just right, and quite plentiful.  It was served with salad, and pasta for 15 bucks…a great deal!
After dinner, we walked over to the town square, on Miguel Hidalgo, between the streets where Mi Casa and Miguel Locos restaurants are located.  Every Friday night, they have a small art festival which is quite interesting.  Live music, Mexican style, in the center of the square, accompanies around 25 or so, artists displaying and selling their wares in a very leisurely fashion.
Don’t get me wrong, this is not the same jewelry or finger painted tiles you can buy in the marina every day a ship is in town, but rather some pretty unique stuff.  One woman from Oaxaca was there weaving all sorts of baskets and holders for things from tortillas to laundry, to who knows what.  alt  alt
Kathy bought a multi colored cases for her reading glasses without bargaining on the price, for 70 pesos, that’s about 5 bucks, for those of you that don’t know.  Another table had a 3 inch shark’s tooth fossil embedded into a rock, something that you most likely would never ever see again.  Photographers showing unique shots they have taken and framed, painters displaying some of their most unique pieces, and jewelers with unique bezels and stones of interest to all to view, or to buy…Absolutely a great way to spend an hour or two, that doesn’t have to cost you a dime.  Kathy bought two colored lamps, with silhouettes of sailboats, that are absolutely beautiful, with light bulbs and electrical hardware included…for $15 each, such a deal!

Next time you are out and about, or having dinner in downtown Cabo on a Friday night, walk on over to the “square” and add a bit of local culture to your evening.  You won’t be sorry!   Ricardo
